more beta-ness

in a further display of my unwavering tendency to procrastinate, i finally got around to joining the unofficial yahoo group for beta testers started up by this kind soul. and of course, it also has it's own nifty little button:

i joined because i'm curious as to what other tpbetas are experiencing and also to see if i can pick up a few tips and workarounds to several design questions i have. and because, well... i dig the button.

as if being chosen as a beta tester for TypePad weren't enough, there has emerged a sub culture within a sub culture. beta tester's pages are now sporting these buttons - based on the excellent ones found at Steal These Buttons - that proudly proclaim not only their beta-ness, but also how quick they were to set up a TypePad blog.

as you can see, at 2305, my number is not a very desirable one. i'll admit that i was initially very keen on being chosen as a tester for Six Apart, but when i received the welcoming email i had a lot of other things going on in my scattered little life and starting up a new blog didn't seem as attractive as it had a few weeks previous. but now here i am and hey, fuck it... i proudly display my procrastinating tendencies for all to see.

Technology, despite it's lofty aspirations, always seems to end up serving the most basic of human desires. Namely, SEX. And anything that might get you SEX. The proliferation of dating and hook up sites in North America and Western Europe is mind boggling. And the stigma of meeting a partner online fades more and more with each LavaLife or Match.Com billboard.

So it's only natural that more 'respectable' traditions should also take advantage of the new technology.
